Long Count

Method & limits

A correlation, not a prophecy

To connect two independently developed calendar systems, scholars use a correlation constant. This tool uses the Goodman–Martínez–Thompson value 584,283, a widely used correlation that maps the Long Count creation-era position 13.0.0.0.0 to August 11, 3114 BCE in the proleptic Gregorian calendar.

Other proposed correlations can shift converted dates. Spellings also vary by Mayan language and scholarly convention; this tool uses familiar Yucatec Maya forms. The calendars are living cultural knowledge as well as subjects of archaeological study.
